Vinci Cycle day out with visit to local wine estate

The tour will head to the historical centre of the town where Leonardo Da Vinci was born. This small medieval village is the least well-known as part of the Via Francigena pilgrim walk of the 12th Century. Vinci is a small, well-preserved medieval town. It might have remained a sleepy, hidden Tuscan town if it hadn’t been for the birth of a famous son. Leonardo da Vinci – literally “from Vinci” – took the town’s name and gave it fame in return. Born on April 15, 1452, Leonardo grew up in this cute, compact village. Sitting amidst the hills of Tuscany below the Apennine mountains, the romantic village has tidy, twisting streets and splendid views from its main piazza, overlooking the valley that is dotted with olive groves and striped with grapevines. The singular focus is now entirely on Leonardo and his accomplishment.

The trails we’ll lead you through across the hills are basically made of ups and downs. Marco, our local guide, will show you the charming little treasures of the village; he will lead you around the hills surrounding Vinci, passing through olive trees and vineyards. You will explore the places where the Genius spent the first years of his life, that treasure ancient mills, clear freshwater streams and secret ravines. To enjoy our tour at its best, we’ll ride on secondary roads.

On the tour, you will stop for a visit to a wine estate depending on opening times; here is an example of one of them www.villadianella.it. Here you will visit their wine cellars and enjoy wine tasting accompanied by local cheese and cured meats. This aspect of the tour is payable locally.

We will meet in Larciano near Vinci so we can meet you there with the electric bikes and the guide.

The full distance is 35 km, with a total elevation over the course of the route of 400-metre elevation. This is made much easier by having electric bikes provided to give you an enjoyable experience and to enjoy the views at the top of some of the hills.

Your guide is experienced and knows the area well, and will provide you with a lovely day out.
