It would be a pleasure to organise a cycle tour that meets your specific requirements, Tuscany has some of the most iconic medieval Towns, I would like to give you some information to gauge your interest as to what type of cycling you would like to do and for how long you would like to cycle each day. Do you want to stay in one place, enjoy a two centre stay or full cycle tour staying in different accommodations and towns each night.
There are two distinct type of cycling holidays in Tuscany…you can shorten the cycling easily to 4, 5 or 7 days as you wish
One option is Tuscany North:
Day 1 – Arrive in Pisa/Florence airport – transfer to Lucca Hotel stay inside the medieval walls of the town.
Day 2 – Cycle to the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa then cycle along the River Serchio towards the medieval town of Lucca accommodation is inside the medieval walls of Lucca
Day 2 – Cycle to Montecatini Terme – lovely small spa town with hilltop town of Montecatini Alto access via Funicolar – stay in a central located hotel
Day 3 – Cycle to Montecarlo small medieval village and then visit local wine estate for wine tasting and lunch return to Montecatini Terme or if you fancy a day off the bike take the train to Florence.
Day 4 – Cycle to Vinci – home of Leornardo di Vinci , visit his house and the beautiful museum nearby – stay in an agriturismo outside Vinci
Day 5 – Cycle to San Gimignano beautiful hilltop walled town famous for the towers and stay either inside the town in a hotel or outside in a nearby agriturismo
Day 6 – Cycle to Siena stay overnight in Siena one of the most famous towns in Tuscany
Day 7 – check out and take the train to Florence for overnight stay in Florence or head to the airport
I always try and stay off as much of the main roads as possible but there will be some traffic on some sections especially entering / exiting Pisa, Lucca, Montecatini and Siena but this is no different to any town back home.
I have produced similar tours for couples, groups and families, distance vary from 35 – 70km depending on the day.
To really find quiet roads then you have to look at starting in Tuscany South but there is more climbing but the views are stunning with routes sometimes on Strade Bianchi (white gravel roads) a feature of this place
Day 1 – Stay near San Gimignano area in an agriturismo – famous hill top town of towers.
Day 2 – Cycle to Chianti area , stay inside the medieval town of Radda in Chianti in the heart of Chianti region famous for its Vineyards and restaurants
Day 3 – Cycle around the Chianti area – visiting Greve in Chianti , Gaiole in Chianti and various wine estates
Day 4 – Heading south to the region of Crete Sinesi and Val d’Orcia UNESCO World Heritage Area staying in the Serre di Rapolano
Day 5 – Cycle to Buonconvento and stay in nearby Agriturismo or inside the medieval town of San Quirico
Day 6 – Cycle to Ionic medieval locations of Pienza and Montepulciano
Day 7 – Cycle to Montalcino the home of the famous Brunello Wine estates – The roads are less busy on this tour
We can provide Hybrid bikes , carbon racing bikes or electric bikes
Both Tours offer a mix terrain there are some hills but Tuscany south has more climbing its certainly not all flat but is much quieter area ….you get the chance to see amazing hilltop medieval towns, wine estates , historic towns and great food.
